Ozone Safety

Ozone safety Warning Sign

When ozone treatment is recommended in a business or a residential home, proper notification is very important to the homeowner or business. Signage should always be placed on all external doors notifying the structure has a an activated oxygen generator in use and to not enter until ozone treatment is complete. This leaves the air fresh because the source of the odor has been permanently removed. And there are no artificial odors so the space becomes free of odors. Employ the power of ozone and create an outdoor fresh environment in your facility!

Trophy Mounts Soot Damage on Trophy Mounts

An accidental fire can occur from many household items and can easily smoke up a house in minutes if it is not properly and quickly handled. While proper insurance can help mitigate financial loss, it is better to understand and work to prevent the situations that lead to house fires on any kind. Most homes are stocked full with combustible items. This list is meant to help homeowners not only identify potential issues but also lower the risk of a house fire. This particular instance was a home owner was using the self-cleaning attachment for his electric stove. The sensors on the stove malfunctioned and it didn’t shut off. The smoke was all throughout the house and his collection of trophy mounts were all affected. Whether it’s a candle accidentally burning throughout the night, faulty cooking equipment or any other scenario, homeowners should be aware of the most common causes of house fires and work to minimize and prevent accidents before they occur. When using the self-clean on your stove, it would be a good idea not to leave and be aware of what could happen. It would also be a good idea to always have a fire extinguisher ready just in case one is needed.

SERVPRO of Lake County Florida was contacted by a home owner for some remediation services. When we contacted the home owner he stated that she had the home inspected by a environmental company and that they took air samples in his home. We ask him if we could see the written protocol (report). After reviewing all the documents we began putting up containment in the bedroom. The drywall under window was effected and had to be removed.  After all this work was completed the environmental company did a clearance test in the home since the homeowner had some health concerns. Mold on Kitchen Cabinets

Growth on cabinets Mold on kitchen cabinets

So you just opened a cabinet door to grab something from under the sink and noticed a musty smell, moved some things around and noticed some mold growth. Now what? Well, don’t get overly worried right now. It may be the case you just have a very small problem on your hands that can be dealt with fairly simply and affordably. Of course, it may also be the very small tip of a larger iceberg. How can you know for sure? Well, technically it’s impossible to know what’s going on below the cabinets without removing them. But that’s clearly an expensive process that you don’t want to begin unless you know you have a bigger problem on your hands. What we suggest in this case is to call SERVPRO of Lake County Florida a certified water & mold damage restoration company to have us assess the situation. We can check behind and underneath the cabinets to see if moisture has traveled elsewhere. If that is the case, it’s usually the case the mold growth has also expanded. But mold damage can be tricky because you really don’t know what you’re up against until you start peeling back layers. Given that, many homeowners can’t help but start doing a little demolition themselves. If you feel inclined to start pulling back cabinets or punching through drywall, please just keep in mind that doing so will kick up mold particles that you can end up breathing or that can travel to other parts of your home. That’s why SERVPRO® will contain the affected area before removing any areas as well as wear full body and face protection.

When sawing through moldy drywall, you can have an assistant hold a vacuum hose with a Hepa filter nearby to further decrease the spread of mold spores or our SERVPRO® franchise uses a drywall saw with an attachment for our Hepa-vacuum. When removing moldy materials, place them in heavy plastic garbage bags before carrying it out of the home so no mold spores are spread to other areas of the home in the process. It’s imperative that you do everything possible to prevent spreading mold spores throughout the house so that you don’t end up with mold in other rooms. If there is any mold on the wooden studs, clean those as well as you can with an antimicrobial cleanser. Allow them to dry completely, then apply anti-microbial sealant to make sure any remaining traces of mold cannot continue to grow and spread. Where did the fire start

9/5/2024 (Permalink)

Burnt exhaust fan Bathroom exhaust fan fire

Bathroom exhaust fans can present a fire hazard if not cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. Over time a build up of lint can occur which can cause the motor to over heat and ignite the lint. Although you might not think about it, but a bathroom exhaust fan is like any other electrical appliance and can pose a risk. Stay safe and reduce this risk by keeping them clean and free of lint build up. Here are some additional tips to consider:

1. Replace older fans

2. Liston to the fan when running for sounds of scraping.

3. Pay close attention to the smell of the fan when it starts to run.  Does it smell like "smoke"?

4. Cleaning the exhaust vents and fan ducts regularly to prevent fires.

Mold in the home: how big a health problem is it?

Whether it is a cold damp winter day or a humid summer day, mold can grow on walls, clothes, books, toys, and even CDs. It can turn prized possessions into musty relics that only look fit for the garbage. But is it also a health hazard? What effects can mold have on a person’s body? Molds are a form of fungus. There are many different types, and they can occur both indoors and outdoors. Mold produces spores, which spread by floating around in the air. Mold spores are present in all indoor environments. There is no way to prevent spores, and they can persist in conditions where mold itself cannot grow. Mold spores thrive in environments that are moist and warm, so when they land on a damp spot, they begin to grow. Molds can grow on a variety of different surfaces, including fabric, paper, wood, glass, and plastic. As they grow, they may digest the material they are growing on.

Sewage water Is this water sanitary

Cat 1 would involve sanitary water, a Cat 2 would be significantly contaminated, and a Cat 3 would be grossly contaminated. This is important because it affects work activities and protective measures that are needed for each job. It is important for our technicians, when working these jobs, to protect themselves by wearing the following PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): Full face respirator with combination HEPA particulate/organic vapor filters, a full body suit, nitrile gloves, heavy-duty work gloves and waterproof boots.

On this particular Cat 3 job, a building under construction experienced a sewage loss in one of the restrooms, which resulted in most of the floor throughout the wing being affected. We were contacted by the customer and were able to respond immediately to begin the work process. In this case, we performed a water extraction, decontaminated affected areas with an antimicrobial multiple times, removed flooring and drywall, placed several air scrubbers and dehumidifiers to aid in the drying process, and HEPA vacuumed all affected areas.

Upon completion of services our customer was thrilled to be able to resume construction on the building and appreciative that our highly trained and certified crew made such a massive, gross debacle “Like it never even happened.”

The average homeowner spends between $1,140 and $4,728 to restore or repair water damage, with an average of $2,931 (depending on the size of the loss) A licensed professional can determine the cause and extent of the destruction by categorizing and classifying the damage to your home — the two largest factors in figuring the final bill. Want to avoid large cleanup and repair bills? Preventative maintenance and cleaning up quickly after damage are critical to keeping costs down. How long moisture is left untreated increases the scope of the damage and allows mold to grow. Preventing damage by contacting professionals to diagnose causes and make small repairs can save thousands later. Regardless of cause or cost, always document the damage for insurance claims. Broken Pipes - Everything You Need to Know Before Calling an Expert

A burst pipe can cause significant damage within a very short time. If you are looking at a frozen pipe, remember that water expands in volume by 9 per cent with great force. The pipe simply can’t sustain the pressure and so it breaks open. Unless you happen to be a plumber, you will want to call one immediately.

Follow these simple steps:

  • Find your water main and shut it off immediately.
  • Safety first. If you have ceilings ready to drop, stay clear of the area.
  • Shut off the electricity if the water is seeping into any of your wiring.
  • Open a faucet to help relieve the remaining pressure.
  • Put a bucket under the leak if possible.
  • Start your clean up. Get out the mops and buckets, the wet vac or anything you have and start getting rid of any water you can. The quicker the better to help reduce the spread of the damage and prevent mold.
  • Set up any fans to blow warm air into the impacted rooms.
  • Open doors to closets and pantries to let air in and give it a chance to dry.
  • Clean up any obvious damage as soon as you can.
  • Review your insurance policy and call your agent.

Hurricane Sally leaves the Florida panhandle with severe flooding and water damages throughout the Pensacola area. As of Thursday afternoon, thousands of Florida residents were without power. Our storm crews saw how much devastation the hurricane left behind. One bridge in Pensacola, Florida, is missing two large sections, likely because barges came loose and smashed into it. Roofs have been peeled away, boats are scattered, and some areas are cut off by downed trees or heavy flooding. SERVPRO of Lake County Florida sent our general manager and crew to help the storm team. They were very surprised on how devastating the hurricane storms can be. What a trying time it is for the residents of Pensacola and surrounding areas. We are glad we were able to help out.

These measures include vacuuming regularly, spot removal, rearranging furniture to alter traffic patterns, and using rugs and runners. SERVPRO of Lake County Florida was contacted by a commercial facility to give an estimate on a severe fire cleanup. When we arrived onsite the business was severely damaged with fire and smoke. They asked for an estimate to get all the remediation work done ASAP. We all put our heads together and came up with a plan. First in order was using Dry Ice Blasting to take care of all the major fire and soot damage on all the concrete walls. This process would be the cleanest and most effective way in getting it taken care of with minimal cleanup. The next step was cleaning all the merchandise that was salvageable.

SERVPRO® managed to get all this accomplished and our reconstruction department went to work rebuilding the business which made the customer very pleased on how we took control of their situation. The business was completed and back opened for business.

Commercial and Home Inspections

New Home Purchased Happy Home Owners

A home inspection uncovers any defects in the property or safety hazards that a resident may face. The most common issues found in Florida homes are water damage or leaky roofs. According to one study, 86% of people who conducted a home inspection found at least one issue.

The purpose of a building inspection is to verify compliance with the minimum safety standards set forth in the adopted codes. At the inspection, the Building Inspector will review all work done, compare it to the approved plans or building code (as applicable) for compliance, and issue an inspection report. Termite Damage

Termite Damage on Window sill Termite Damage

Termite infestation can do extensive damage to the inside of walls and floors—often without detection. Since termites eat wood from the inside out, you probably won't find them until your home is infested, and you're more likely to see signs of damage than the bugs themselves. Look for:

  • Sawdust or sand-like material near windows and door frames, which could be droppings of dry wood termites. You may also notice tiny holes where sawdust has accumulated.
  • Mud tubes are structures that subterranean termites build to connect the nest to the source of wood. Check outdoors and indoors at the base of your home where the frame connects to the foundation and scan your crawlspace or basement if you have one, for the brown, branching structures. They can also hang from joists, so check the floor beams as well.
  • Look for accumulations of dry fecal pellets left behind by drywood termites.
  • Shed wings from the swarmer termites or the bugs themselves can often be found near windows or windowsills. Swarmers are attracted to light so check under outdoor fixtures.
  • Does wood framing sound hollow when you tap it? You might have termites.
  • Do you have wood that looks water-damaged but it hasn't been exposed to water? You might have termites.
  • If your painted or varnished wood or drywall is blistering, you might have termites.
  • If you notice damage across the wood grain, you might have termites

Pack Out

5/23/2024 (Permalink)

Stacked SERVPRO Boxes Packout boxes

Simply put, a pack out service specializes in retrieving items from a home that has been damaged by a flood or other major disaster. Afterwards, they help to ensure the quality of the items they have retrieved. A typical pack out service operation consists of three steps. These steps are retrieval, storage, and restoration. The pack out service is unable to give your home back to you. But they can help save the most precious items in the house, long after you thought they were gone for ever. They can also attempt to retrieve artwork, consumer electronics, furniture, and so on. However, not everything will be salvageable, which is why it’s important to have a prioritized list of what you would like them to seek out. Once the pack out service has retrieved the items, they will need to be placed in a safe place. Most pack out services have special locations where these items can be stored, either all at once or in stages as the retrieval process continues. These storage facilities are clean and climate-controlled. And the main purpose of such a facility is to house your items while your home is being restored.

Industrial Hygienist

5/14/2024 (Permalink)

Ductwork in Ceiling Moldy Ductwork 2024

An Industrial Hygienist is often called in to test the indoor air quality of structures affected by growth. The hygienist takes air and lift samples to be sent to the lab for comparison to outside levels. The samples are sent out to a lab, who tests each specimen and compares the results to a control group and samples from the outside environment. These tests help determine whether the spore levels inside the structure are outside of the safe range. If the structure "fails" the preliminary test, the hygienist will write a protocol that remediation companies can follow to help deem the structure safe. Here at SERVPRO of Lake County, we frequently work with protocols. Growth jobs can include setting containment, demolition, and micro cleaning. Our crews work diligently to clean the affected areas and reduce spore counts. After mitigation is complete, the hygienist will return to perform a post-test. This test shows whether the mitigation efforts were successful or if further action must be taken.

Commercial Carpet Cleaning

4/23/2024 (Permalink)

Properly maintained commercial carpet is a strong asset to any facility, providing a clean professional look, a degree of comfort, and a means to remove dust and allergens from the air. Preserving this asset is important, and preventative steps should be taken including simple vacuuming once or twice a week during your scheduled facilities cleaning through more extensive carpet cleaning.

Stains

Many things can cause carpet stains; beverages, foods, fertilizer, pesticides, medicines, hair care products and vomit can cause serious staining, requiring carpet cleaning at some level. Often the damage is not discovered immediately, giving the stain time to set and thus becoming more difficult to remove. When this occurs, it is often necessary to contact companies that clean commercial carpets in order to obtain the best results with your facilities cleaning.

Here are a few steps to minimize stain damage:

  • Act soon. Do not let the spot dry and set
  • Always test a spot removal agent in a location concealed from view.
  • Blot the stain. Do not scrub it.
  • Apply a small amount of a recommended cleaning solution to a cloth, not directly to the carpet.
  • Work your way in from the edges of the spot, blotting and rubbing gently.
  • Consult a professional commercial carpet cleaner when dealing with unusual substances such as chemicals.

Schools Student Desk Mold on Students Desk

High Humidity and HVAC system not properly working:

A classroom with a high relative humidity experiences air that is very moist, making students feel overly chilled or sticky depending on the temperature. All that extra water in the air facilitates the growth of bacteria, mold, fungus and dust mites.

High humidity levels even result in condensation forming inside the windows, ceilings and walls of classrooms and other areas of a school, damaging building materials.

Controlling Humidity Levels
Moisture concerns inside schools are caused by a wide range of conditions, such as leaks in plumbing and in the roof, condensation, damp ground beneath a structure and outdoor humidity. The simple act of students exhaling creates moisture. Tightly sealed newer buildings might not allow moisture to escape. Even temporary, portable classrooms frequently see higher humidity and mold growth.

There are several ways to control and reduce humidity levels inside schools and classrooms.

  • Make sure adequate ventilation exists to keep humidity levels between 30% and 50%.
  • Install exhaust fans if you have kitchens for cooking and washing dishes inside classrooms. Give individual classrooms a de-humidifier.
  • Install insulation to cut back on condensation on cold surfaces like windows, exterior walls, pipes and floors.
  • Mount tile around drinking fountains and classroom sinks and on the floor below.

By controlling humidity levels, pathogens, mold, fungus and allergens are controlled as well. If mold is not removed after optimum humidity levels are reached.

Equipment set Logging in equipment on a commercial water loss

An Emergency Water damage came in toward the end of the work day. All of our crew chiefs and technician's were on other projects so our owners and myself (marketing and quality control manager) loaded up equipment on our cargo trailer and headed to the medical facility. Upon arrival we began to access the loss with the manager of the facility. We took reading of the areas affected and began to unload the equipment and placed it in the affected areas. We placed twenty two air movers, four dehumidifiers and one air scrubber. The cause of loss was from a janitors closet drain backup. They requested that we spray an anti microbial product through the entire facility. We sprayed approximately 3,000 square feet of the facility. The customers were very pleased how quickly we we responded to there loss and got everything under control.

Commercial Carpet Cleaning

4/2/2024 (Permalink)

SERVPRO techs cleaning Commercial Carpet Cleaning

  1. Wet cleaning

How it works

Also known as hot water extraction or steam cleaning, the carpet is first pre-conditioned with a chemical reagent that liquefies soils and oil-based substances which may be present in the carpet fibers. Water is heated to a temperature near its boiling point and pressurized, then injected into the carpet. After about 10 to 15 minutes, the solution is extracted with a vacuum.

  1. Gets out soiling from deep down in the carpet.                                                                                                         2. Allows the use of high temperatures, pressures and chemical concentrates.                                                           3. Permits extended dwell times for reaction of cleaning solvents.                                                                                   4. Chemical reactivity facilitated by agitation with grooming tool or extraction wand.

This is the most widely used method.                                                                                                            Recommended by carpet manufacturers and industry cleaning experts and professionals

  1. Cleaning with an absorbent pad

How it works

This carpet cleaning method is also commonly known as bonnet cleaning and is most often used for routine light maintenance. It can also be used for regular carpet cleaning. The carpet is first vacuumed, and then a chemical solution is sprayed on to it with a hand pump or electric sprayer. The solution is allowed to stay on the carpet for a suitable dwell or reaction time.

The absorbent pad or bonnet, which looks like a towel, is placed on the drive block of a rotary floor machine and spun over the carpet surface at 100 to 300 rpm. This action serves to impregnate the carpet fibers with the chemical solution and then pick it up with the soils afterward.

  1. Fast, simple and inexpensive.                    2. Excellent results with lightly soiled carpets.
  2. Dry cleaning with an absorbent compound

How it works

A powder that has been mixed with special solvents and cleaning agents is spread over the carpet, and then worked into the carpet fibers with a machine fitted with counter-rotating brushes. The powder absorbs soils in the carpet fibers. After it’s allowed to set on the carpet for 10 to 15 minutes, it’s vacuumed up.

  1. Very simple system with no special technical training required.                                                                                 2. Very fast drying, it typically only takes about 20 minutes before the carpet can be back in service.
  2. Dry foam or rotary shampoo method

How it works

A cleaning agent is applied to the carpet to help suspend dirt and debris in the carpet, which is then whipped into foam and worked into the carpet fibers with the rotating brushes of a special machine. After a short dwell time, the foam is extracted with a vacuum.

Pros

  1. Fast, simple to apply and inexpensive.                                                                                                                       2. Rotating brushes provide excellent agitation.                                                                                                             3. Small amount of moisture allows fast drying of carpet.

Exposed Subfloor Removing Contaminated Subfloor

Mold - you can't wish it away and you can't really avoid it. However, you can get rid of it. There are many kinds of mold. In nature, they're beneficial as those molds decompose biological matter that would otherwise drown the world in waste. When the mold spores drift inside your home, if the spores find a suitable, damp environment, they begin to grow. The result is more than distasteful - it can cause health effects. If it's growing under your flooring, you need to fix the cause, kill and remove the mold, then replace the flooring. In this particular case the damage floor was present for the last few months and they didn't notice until their floor was about to cave it. For all your mold assessment and remediation needs, please call SERVPRO of Lake County Fl. 1-352-735-3311

Got Mold

3/28/2024 (Permalink)

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors.

This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business.

Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level.

Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy.

Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Fire Damage

Debris on Countertop Countertop damaged by fire

When a fire starts in the kitchen, you need to act fast to keep the fire from getting out of control. But how you act depends on what kind of fire you have and where it is. Follow these instructions for putting out kitchen fires: getting out of control. But how you act depends on what kind of fire you have and where it is. Follow these instructions for putting out kitchen fires:

  • If you have a fire in a cooking pan, use an oven mitt to clap on the lid, then move the pan off the burner, and turn off the stove. The lack of oxygen will stop the flames in a pot.
  • If you can’t safely put the lid on a flaming pan or you don’t have a lid for the pan, use your fire extinguisher. Aim at the base of the fire — not the flames.
  • Never use water to put out grease fires! Water repels grease and can spread the fire by splattering the grease.

Garage Fire

Green SERVPRO Air Scrubber Air Scrubber in garage

An accidental fire can occur in your garage from many household items and can easily smoke up a garage in minutes if it is not properly and quickly extinguish . While proper insurance can help mitigate financial loss, it is better to understand and work to prevent the situations that lead to garage fires. Most homes are stocked full with combustible items. This list is meant to help homeowners not only identify potential issues but also lower the risk of a fire. This particular instance the home owner wasn't sure what started it. The smoke was all throughout the garage and much of his tools and equipment needed cleaning. Whether it’s a candle accidentally burning throughout the night, faulty equipment, combustibles or any other scenario, homeowners should be aware of the most common causes of house /garage fires and work to minimize and prevent accidents before they occur. It would be a good idea to not leave a lot of items laying around on the floor and good housekeeping practices would be a great idea too. It would also be a good idea to always have a fire extinguisher ready just in case one is needed.

Summer Barbeque

3/12/2024 (Permalink)

10 Tips for Safe Summer Barbecues:

Do's and Don'ts That Will Keep You From Becoming a Statistic

Do:

  1. Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your house. Farther is even better. This includes portions attached to your house like carports, garages and porches. Grills should not be used underneath wooden overhangs either, as the fire could flare up into the structure above. This applies to both charcoal and gas grills.
  2. Clean your grill regularly. If you allow grease and fat to build up on your grill, they provide more fuel for a fire. Grease is a major source of flare ups.
  3. Check for gas leaks. You can make sure no gas is leaking from your gas grill by making a solution of half liquid dish soap and half water and rubbing it on the hoses and connections. Then, turn the gas on (with the grill lid open.) If the soap forms large bubbles, that's a sign that the hoses have tiny holes or that the connections are not tight enough.
  4. Keep decorations away from your grill. Decorations like hanging baskets, pillows and umbrellas look pretty AND provide fuel for a fire. To make matters worse, today's decor is mostly made of artificial fibers that burn fast and hot, making this tip even more important.
  5. Keep a spray bottle of water handy. That way, if you have a minor flare-up you can spray it with the water to instantly calm it. The bonus of this tip is that water won't harm your food, so dinner won't be ruined!
  6. Keep a fire extinguisher within a couple steps of your grill. And KNOW HOW TO USE IT. If you are unsure how to use the extinguisher, don't waste time fiddling with it before calling 911. Firefighters say many fire deaths occur when people try to fight a fire themselves instead of calling for expert help and letting the fire department do its job.

Don't:

  1. Turn on the gas while your grill lid is closed. NEVER do this. It causes gas to build up inside your grill, and when you do light it and open it, a fireball can explode in your face.
  2. Leave a grill unattended. Fires double in size every minute. Plan ahead so that all of your other food prep chores are done and you can focus on grilling.
  3. Overload your grill with food. This applies especially fatty meats. The basic reason for this tip is that if too much fat drips on the flames at once, it can cause a large flare-up that could light nearby things on fire.
  4. Use a grill indoors. People often think it will be safe to use a grill, especially a small one, indoors. NOT TRUE. In addition to the fire hazard, grills release carbon monoxide, the deadly colorless, odorless gas. That gas needs to vent in fresh air or it can kill you, your family and pets.

COVID 19 Cleanup

Cleaning and wearing PPE Wiping and disinfecting all touch points for COVID 19

Cleaning and disinfecting your building or facility if someone is sick. Close off areas used by the person who is sick.

Companies do not necessarily need to close operations, if they can close off affected areas.

Open outside doors and windows to increase air circulation in the area.

Wait 24 hours before you clean or disinfect. If 24 hours is not feasible, wait as long as possible.

Clean and disinfect all areas used by the person who is sick, such as offices, bathrooms, common areas, shared electronic equipment like tablets, touch screens, keyboards, remote controls, and ATM machines.

Vacuum the space if needed. Use vacuum equipped with high-efficiency particular air (HEPA) filter, if available.

Do not vacuum a room or space that has people in it. Wait until the room or space is empty to vacuum, such as at night, for common spaces, or during the day for private rooms.

Consider temporarily turning off room fans and the central HVAC system that services the room or space, so that particles that escape from vacuuming will not circulate throughout the facility.

Once area has been appropriately disinfected, it can be opened for use.

Workers without close contact with the person who is sick can return to work immediately after disinfection.

If more than 7 days since the person who is sick visited or used the facility, additional cleaning and disinfection is not necessary.

Continue routing cleaning and disinfection. This includes everyday practices that businesses and communities normally use to maintain a healthy environment.

If you find mold growing on drywall, trim, or unfinished wood surfaces, and especially if the affected area is more than 10 square feet, hire a mold professional to discover the root and extent of the problem. Summer is for BBQ

1/4/2024 (Permalink)

10 Tips for Safe Summer Barbecues:

Dos and Don'ts That Will Keep You From Becoming a Statistic

Do:

Drying Chamber

Drying Chamber Drying Concrete wall cavity

The Essential Guide to Drying Chambers in Water Damage Restoration

Drying chambers, by nature, will limit the risk of moisture spreading. Because they can section off a specific area, the moisture is quickly pulled out of the air by dehumidifiers. If not sealed, the moisture would move throughout the building, potentially causing damage in other areas. Drying chambers can be established for any site requiring treatment, including small cavities, cupboards, and within walls.

A main concern with other treatment methods is how much resourcing is required to dry a given area. With drying chambers, you’re able to target the specific location you need to work on and not waste energy by the surrounding environment. If the flooring is all that needs to be treated, you’re not losing precious time and power to keep an entire room at the proper temperature, with the right amount of airflow. You’re simply applying energy to the damaged flooring, dramatically reducing resource requirements and saving yourself from other potential issues.

While drying chambers are efficient, they need to be implemented correctly to maximize their benefits.

Electrical Fire

burnt area of laundry room Fire caused from faulty wires

SERVPRO of Lake County Florida was recently call out to an emergency. The home owners stated then had a fire. They stated the fire started in the laundry room area. The fire marshal was on site when we arrived and they had the area all quarantined off. We could not work in that area until it was cleared, which took a week or so.    Have your home electrical system thoroughly inspected by qualified electricians to ensure that all electrical work in the home meets the safety provisions in the NEC.
Install smoke detectors on every level of the home, inside each bedroom, and outside each sleeping area.
